Public Sector Procurement

Past date

  • 19th May 2022

The last two years have been one of the most challenging periods for the public sector, with gross spending on public sector procurement reaching £357bn in 2021/22, a rise of 17% on the previous year due to the response to the pandemic.

With public procurement accounting for around a third of all public expenditure every year, the Cabinet Office published the Green Paper, Transforming Public Procurement, outlining ambitious public procurement reform that explore ways to simplify the procurement process, create social value opportunities and a sustainable supply chain, followed by its response after a period of consultation.

Levelling Up ambitions have only reinforced the need for procurement reform, highlighting how the current process creates too much red tape for buyers and suppliers, leading to a focus on the wrong activities rather than outcomes, value and transparency.

On 19 May we’re joined by public sector leaders and innovators to explore the key challenges in public sector procurement. Gain insight into how we simplify the procurement process, the importance of social value and how to reach net zero through sustainable procurement.
